Columbarium
Angelus Memorial Park has Alaska' first indoor Columbarium. A Columbarium is place with niches that hold the cremated remains of a person in an urn. Our niches are housed in units that line the walls. The majority of our niches have glass fronts but a few have bronze fronts. The niches vary in sizes so that they may be selected according to the need of a family. A niche may house the cremains of an infant, for example, or it may house the cremains of a couple either in separate urns or in a double urn.
The Columbarium is a nicely lit, temperature-controlled area. The niches with glass fronts allow families to personalize the niches as they tastefully choose. Many of the niches have pictures of the deceased or small personal items that express the personality or interest of the person who resides there. Flowers, cards and other small items are allowed on the shelving units that are generously placed around the area. Most people seem to be very pleased with the peaceful atmosphere and beauty of the Columbarium.
The indoor Columbarium allows for comfortable visiting year round. A visitor may stand or sit in one of the comfortable chairs for a lengthy visit. Services are allowed in the Columbarium, also. The Columbarium is open during all office hours, Monday - Friday, 8 A.M.- 4:30 P.M. or appointments may be made for off hours by calling the office during office hours.
Columbarium niches are purchased and remain the property of the owner. A person who purchases a niche prior to need and changes their mind for some reason can sell their niche to another person. The niches range in price from $300-$1,975 depending on size and are available for sale. Perpetual care is provided for the Columbarium just as it is for the cemetery. The back wall of the Columbarium was originally designed to be removed in time to allow for extension of the facility when needed.
