In Loving Memory of Mary Keen (formerly Burr and Burke)

Lifelong Alaska resident Mary Keen passed away on Feb. 13, 2024, peacefully at home in Bird Creek, Alaska, surrounded by family. It was her 66th birthday.

A service will be held on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at 6 p.m., at Saint Benedict's Catholic Church, 8110 Jewel Lake Road, Anchorage, AK 99502.

Born in Anchorage, Alaska, to Paul and Judy Burke, Mary was the fourth of 11 siblings. She graduated from Stellar High School in 1976, and soon after embarked on a 30-year career with the State of Alaska. First, she worked at the Pioneer Home, then she worked for the Department of Corrections. After retiring from the State, she started a new job at Arctec cooking at remote radar sites for weeks at a time.

In 1996, Mary met the love of her life, Ralph Keen, while playing softball. They married 11 years later to the day. Mary's pride and joy were her children, Timothy and Ariel, whom she considered her greatest accomplishments.

When not working, Mary enjoyed traveling, eating good food and spending time with friends and family. Her zest for life was contagious. She brought a smile and joy to everyone she met, with her witty humor, generosity and, above all, her kindness and compassion. She always wanted to help people regardless of their situation to try to make their lives better.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Ralph Keen; son, Timothy Burr and wife Jessica; daughter, Ariel Burr and husband Donny; and stepson, Ian Keen. She leaves behind nine siblings and their spouses, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Mike Burke.

Mary will be eternally cherished by her friends and family, remembered for the love and warmth she shared with everyone around her. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were touched by her grace.

We will miss her always.
