William P. Houghton, Anchorage, AK— It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William P. Houghton, affectionately known as Bill, who was a cherished husband, father, and pillar of his community. Bill’s passing has left a profound void in the lives of his loved ones, particularly his wife, Helen Houghton, and his sons, Nicholas and Wayne Danjin.
Bill was a devoted family man, always ensuring the safety and comfort of his family. His professional journey was marked by significant achievements as a civil engineer. Bill served in the Colorado & Kansas Army National Guard until 1969 and contributed to major projects such as the Distance Early Warning (DEW) Line during the Cold War. He worked with the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway, ITT/FELEC Services, and later as a Construction Manager at Rea Construction in Hampton, VA. His career also included notable airport projects in South Korea, Miami, Chicago, and Santa Ana before he retired in Anchorage in 2010.
Bill’s love for his family was evident in the many adventures they shared, from road trips to Denali and Seward to Bingo nights with his mother-in-law, Mary Ahkivgak. His humor, zest for life, and humble nature left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

A fundraiser organized by Nicholas Danjin on behalf of Helen Houghton seeks to raise $10,000 to cover the costs of Bill’s memorial service and funeral. So far, $245 has been raised through the kind donations of Trixie Weber, Helen Ahkivgak, Monica Wiehl, and Donna M. Carr.
As we navigate through this difficult time, we take comfort in the knowledge that Bill will find his final resting place in peace. His unwavering faith and daily prayers were a testament to his belief in God and his gratitude for life’s blessings.
