James Bernard White of Anchorage, Alaska passed away on the evening of March 25, 2025 from post operative complications from a hip fracture. He had been in failing health for the past nine years after a cardiac arrest in 2016 and several bouts with sepsis.
James (aka Jim, Jimmy, JB or Barney) was born to Joseph and Ann White (Fengler) in Russellville, Arkansas on January 19, 1947. The White family moved from Arkansas to Redondo Beach, California in 1955. Jim grew up in Redondo Beach and lived on Pullman Lane with his three siblings. Jim had a great work ethic and always held a job during his school years. He attended Redondo Beach Union High School and graduated in the spring of 1965. In high school Jim met and fell in love with his future wife, Janette Acree.
Jim volunteered for military service in July of 1965 and did his basic training at Ft. Bragg. After basic Jim was deployed to Vietnam, first serving in a tank battalion then later serving in a construction battalion that specialized in building army hospitals. Upon his honorable discharge, Jim went back to Southern California and married Janette. Jim and Jan had two sons and enjoyed fifty seven years of marriage together.
Jim moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska in March of 1977 and started a construction company called Timberline Industries with several partners. In 1982 Jim left Timberline and started his own company called JB White Inc. which specialized in insurance disaster restoration. During the tumultuous economy of the 80’s, JB White Inc folded and Jim moved forward with Pacific General Construction and then Ashwater-Burns Inc.
After retiring from construction, Jim and his pal Mike Allen started Berry Brothers Fine Cabinetry which specialized in small remodels and custom cabinetry. Jim and Jan also started a small gym in Anchorage called Alaska Fitness.
Jim loved being surrounded by family and friends. He enjoyed the theater, art, music, movies and always had to have a project. Jim was a generous person and liked to help others. Jim White is loved and he will be missed.
Jim is survived by his sons Joe (Holly) and Mike; granddaughters Rachel (Dallas), Haley (Hristos) and Lauren; great-granddaughter Aria and great-grandson Luka; sisters Mary and Carol and brother Mike (Joyce).
