William "Bill" Field Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Field, age 63, who tragically lost his life alongside his son, Michael (38), in Sky Valley, California, after being struck head-on by a drunk driver. Born March 20, 1962, he was the third child for Bill and Judi Field in Anchorage, Alaska. He attended Turnagain Elementary, Romig Junior, and West High schools, and remained in close contact with the many, many friends he made during those years. Bill worked many jobs throughout his life, and he talked fondly of the years he worked with his father on the Alaska slope, always regaling about what he learned from dad, such as making tools to fit the job when one didn’t exist. Bill and his father enjoyed racing go carts, fixing/building/tinkering with everything, but most of all they loved flying together. Bill went on to work for Wein and MarkAir airlines, which took him to Arizona and California to set up new offices in those locations. He also took great pride while working for Marriott Catering Services while planning, purchasing, and monitoring the meals prepared for various airlines. Bill worked for the state of Alaska ferry system in Petersburg and Wrangell, where he and his beloved golden retriever, Coco, had many adventures while out fishing in the heavily wooded areas. In January 1992, Bill and Sharie met while working for the division of public assistance at the state of Alaska. After a brief courtship, they married on July 3 (his desired holiday & her grandmother’s birthday). Bill was promoted quickly through the ranks of the division starting out as an ET case manager in Anchorage, moving to Kenai for an office manager position, and back to Anchorage as a regional manager, overseeing the largest region of public assistance in the state of Alaska. In 2001, Bill underwent carpal tunnel surgery that led to a devastating disorder known as complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS aka RSD) that causes an internal burning and constant pain which forced an early retirement. He put much of his time into researching the disability, and supporting the many other people he discovered had the same disease. Always looking for ways to expand and improve medical treatment(s), and to educate the public. Bill is survived by Sharie, his wife of nearly 33 years; mother, Judi Field, sister Susie, daughter Michelle, 3 Aldrich cousins - Gary, Ron and Jim, Aunt Mary Aldrich, cousin Patti (Greg) Pepperd. A memorial service will be 11:30am, Tuesday, April 22, in Heritage Chapel at Angelus Cemetery.
